BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS SELECT SAMPSON NATIVE ALLEN VANN AS THE NEW COUNTY MANAGER
The Sampson County Board of Commissioners have voted to hire Sampson County native Allen Vann as the County Manager effective July 7, 2025. The Commissioners gave Mr. Vann their unanimous endorsement as their first item of business during a Special Meeting of the Board on the morning of June 11th.
Chairman Allen McLamb commented that “Board members have each spent several hours with Mr. Vann and believe he is the individual that can keep us moving forward toward better community relationships and continued collaborative, transparent, and professional management of the county.”
Vann most recently served as Assistant County Manager in Pender County, NC, one of the fastest growing counties in the state. As a result of working in several high growth organizations throughout his career, Vann brings enhanced skills in Economic Development, Budgeting, Capital Projects Management, and Strategic Planning.
In his new position, Allen Vann will oversee the day-to-day operations of Sampson County Government, working closely with county staff, elected officials, and community stakeholders to address the needs and priorities of the county. Vann expressed gratitude in being selected for this important role by the Board of County Commissioners, stating, “I consider this an honor and a privilege. I look forward to collaborating with the Commissioners, county personnel, and community to promote and build upon our strengths and work towards viable solutions for various challenges facing the county.”
Vann is a native of Sampson County and grew up in the Clement community before leaving to attend college in Wilmington. “Life happened with marriage, children, and career that took me to other places,” Vann said. “It’s so surreal. I’m thrilled that things have come full circle, and I can return home to be a public servant to the citizens of Sampson County.”
Vann’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, Master of Business Administration from Meredith College, and completion of the UNC School of Government Municipal and County Administration course.
