The Sampson County Geographic Information Services (GIS) centralizes the creation, maintenance, and sharing of geographic data and provides custom mapping support across our county government. GIS serves internal departments, partner agencies, and the public by maintaining key map layers such as aerial photography, zoning, fire districts, commissioner districts, E911 addressing, tax parcels, flood zones, schools, parks, and ZIP code boundaries. Our GIS department offers a visual approach that helps solve problems and support better decision-making.
Our GIS Coordinator Jessie Matthews was recently recognized with the NCPMA Academic Achievement Award! She is one of the only four recipients statewide in 2025. She earned this honor by achieving a perfect score on the Property Mapper Course exam, completed after a rigorous, week-long training focused on North Carolina property mapping. The course covered state regulations, mapping techniques, and best practices, and was held at the Chatham County Agriculture and Conference Center in August 2025.
By passing the exam, Jessie became eligible for apply for Mapper Certification through NCPMA and the Certified Property Mapper credential through the North Carolina Secretary of State. The NCPMA certification requires two years of experience, demonstrating both knowledge and proven expertise. The state certification required completion of an additional course through the UNC School of Government, Property Tax Listing and Assessing, where she also earned a perfect exam score.
This achievement reflects our GIS Coordinator Jessie Matthews' high level of skill and professionalism supporting accurate record information, mapping quality, and service to internal departments as well as the public. Congratulations, Jessie!
