NC Cooperative Extension – Sampson Center was proud to welcome Dr. Garey Fox, Dean of NC State University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, as part of his effort to visit all 101 Extension Centers across North Carolina. Dr. David Monks, Director of NC State Extension and the Associate Dean of CALS joined Dr. Fox on his tour. Since our founding in 1911, NC Cooperative Extension – Sampson Center has been dedicated to serving the people of Sampson County, and this visit was an opportunity to showcase both our history and the innovative programs shaping our future.

During his tour, Dean Fox explored the wide range of work the Sampson Center does each day to support agriculture, families, and youth. Highlights included the livestock facilities and equipment, ground pearl study, sampling equipment, blueberry beetle trapping projects, and the unique “At the Table” kitchen studio where we bring healthy living education directly to the community. These programs reflect the heart of Extension’s mission: translating knowledge, research, and local partnerships to deliver real solutions.

Sampson County Board of Commissioner Chairman Allen McLamb, County Manager Allen Vann also joined today’s meaningful event. Chairman McLamb emphasized the county’s goal of maintaining its agricultural lifestyle, stating that Extension’s role is crucial to protecting jobs, strengthening families, and sustaining the food system. County Manager Allen Vann reinforced agriculture’s importance, noting that Sampson is ranked first in North Carolina for both crops and livestock and stands among the top agricultural counties in the nation. Tammy Peterson of Hubb’s Farm shared her perspective on Youth Pork Day, an example of Extension’s collaboration with community partners to engage and inspire young people.

The visit was not only a chance to welcome Dean Fox but also a reinforcement of the deep partnerships that make NC Cooperative Extension – Sampson Center possible. With the continued support of county leadership, local businesses, and dedicated community members, Cooperative Extension – Sampson Center remains committed to helping agriculture thrive, families succeed, and youth discover their potential. Together, we are proud to stand at the intersection of tradition and innovation, ensuring a stronger future for our county and our state.
