Are you ready for the upcoming Hurricane Season?

[SAMPSON COUNTY, N.C.] – We are less than 100 days away from Hurricane Season. Sampson County Emergency Services officials are urging residents to take action now to ensure they are fully prepared. Hurricanes can strike with little warning, and being ready before a storm hits can make all the difference in protecting lives and minimizing property damage.

"It is always good to stay prepared and be proactive," said Rick Sauer, Director of Sampson County Emergency Services. "Preparation can be utilized for any disasters or emergencies, such as floods, tornadoes, severe weather, and more. We encourage everyone to take the necessary steps to ensure their homes, families, and businesses are ready for any inclement weather that may come our way."

Key Steps to Prepare for Hurricane Season:
  1. Create an Emergency Plan: Talk to your family about what to do in case of a hurricane. Plan evacuation routes, communication methods, and where to go for shelter.

  2. Build an Emergency Kit: Stock up on essential supplies like water, non-perishable food, medications, first-aid items, flashlights, batteries, and important documents. Ensure your kit can sustain your family for at least 72 hours.

  3. Secure Your Home: Check your windows, doors, and roof for vulnerabilities. If necessary, install storm shutters or plywood to protect windows and doors from high winds and flying debris.

  4. Stay Informed: Sign up for Sampson County alerts, follow trusted weather channels, and download apps to stay updated on severe weather developments. Know your evacuation routes and have a plan in place.

  5. Prepare for Power Outages: Make sure your phone is fully charged, and if possible, have a backup power source, such as a generator, on hand.

  6. Help Your Neighbors: Check in on elderly, disabled, or vulnerable neighbors to ensure they are also prepared.
