There are inspection requirements  for construction projects.

Inspection Requirements

REQUIRED INSPECTIONS FOR CONSTRUCTION


FOOTING INSPECTION:

  1. When trenches are dug with grade stakes in place;
  2. Step downs are properly set and blocked before concrete is put in trench.

FOUNDATIONS INSPECTIONS:

  1. When all foundation walls and piers are up with solid cap to meet code;
  2. Foundation wall vents installed;
  3. Proper size access opening left out.

FRAMING AND ELECTRICAL, PLUMBING, AND MECHANICAL ROUGH-N INSPECTIONS (AT SAME TIME IF POSSIBLE).

FRAMING INSPECTION

  1. Framing inspection should be made when all faming is complete;
  2. Doors and windows installed in outside walls;
  3. Dwelling or building should be completely dried in.

ELECTRICAL ROUGH-IN INSPECTION

  1. Have power company engineer spot meter location on house;
  2. Install meter base at eye level;
  3. Install all electrical outlet boxes and pull wires;
  4. Staple all wires within 6” of outlet boxes and staple all wires securely to floor joists and ceiling joists;
  5. Install bathroom and outside receptacles on ground fault circuit with nothing else on circuit;
  6. Install smoke detector outlet in hallway close to bedrooms; If bedrooms are not located in same area, install smoke detector in each area ( 120 v AC Type);
  7. If recessed lights are used, install on metal brackets provided with fixtures and do not let metal parts of fixtures be closer than ½” to wood or combustible material;
  8. Install cables in center of studs, if closer than center, install metal plates so nails will not be driven into cable;
  9. If conduit through roof is used for most, use 2" rigid conduit with roof flange and rubber gasket and do not install higher than 3 feet from where conduit passes through roof to top of conduit.
  10. If cooper water lines are used, install #4 bare copper wire from neutral bar in main panel to water lines to ground water lines to ground rod.

Construction Inspections

PLUMBING ROUGH-IN INSPECTION

  1. Plumbing rough-in when all fixture drains and fixture venting is complete;
  2. Water supply lines are installed to each fixture (Hot and Cold)
  3. All branch drains connected to main 4" drain;
  4. 4" drain installed with proper fall (one-eight per foot) and stubbed through outside wall;
  5. Rough-in for water heater;
  6. Outside hose bib roughed-in with self-draining, anti-siphon type used; G. Cut-off in main water line just outside building or just under building (accessible);
  7. All sewer lines and branch drains in concealed area to be filled with water to highest fixture level for inspector to see.

MECHANICAL ROUGH-IN INSPECTION

  1. All heating and cooling outlets should be roughed-in;
  2. Branch ducts hooked to main duct; All returns roughed-in;
  3. All duct work insulated;
  4. Thermostat wires pulled to where thermostat is to be located;
  5. All vent fan exhaust ducts roughed-in.

ENERGY INSPECTION (after rough-ins):

  • When energy is installed in walls with vapor barrier
  • Areas where insulation will be concealed in attic or floors should be installed for inspection at same time;
  • Air baffles for maintaining "01" air space over insulation in attic should be installed for inspection on rough-in.

FINAL INSPECTION:

  1. All exhaust fans vented to outside with approved hood;
  2. All equipment set in place and hooked up
  3. All work on fireplace and chimneys complete;
  4. All doors and windows in exterior wall weather stripped or storm windows and doors installed;
  5. All insulation in place;
  6. All work should be completed on plumbing, electrical, mechanical, insulation, and building.

SLAB INSPECTION (WHEN REQUIRED)

  • When building is to be on a concrete slab, an inspection is required before slab is poured. All plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and insulation to be covered by slab should be roughed-in when calling for inspection.

CHIMNEY INSPECTIONS

  • Chimney is to be inspected when ready to set first flue line in place.
